MCAO was constructed in the early 1960s.  The observatory houses a 24 inch (0.6m) Tinsley telescope, seen here arriving via crane for installation into the dome.  The telescope is the main research instrument, studying everything from asteroids to flare stars to pulsating white dwarfs during its lifetime.
